Quarantine baking

Nothing says “home sweet home” like baking and comfort food! We’ve been catching up on our baking, we had missed it so much while travelling! A batch of banana muffins here, an Apple crumble there, and then... rations happened at our local grocery store(which is a good thing don’t get me wrong cause people were going crazy and the shelves were having a hard time staying stocked.) But for a family of six some things aren’t luxury... we promise you when our grocery cart is overflowing with food like eggs, butter, fruits and veggies, we aren’t stocking up... we actually go through all of it in a week! Yes, you heard right, a week! I won’t even mention toilet paper here!

So I resorted to an old recipe I must have baked every single week when I was a little girl. No eggs, no butter... hallelujah! I had forgotten how delicious this cake actually is... I promise, don’t let the ingredients fool you! Here is the recipe:

Mayonnaise cake

2 cups of flour
1 cup of sugar
4 table spoons of cacao
1 tea spoon of baking powder
1 tea spoon of soda
1 cup of mayonnaise
1 cup of water
1 tea spoon of vanilla

Mix all ingredient together, pour batter in a greased 9x9 cake pan, bake 30-35 minutes at 350 degrees F.

We even felt a little more creative than usual and decided to simplify the recipe and put it into pictures so you can use it as a family activity while we are still quarantining ;)

Zoey went right ahead and fail-proofed it, following the recipe and baking the cake all

by herself(with the help of the littles ones of course!)

I’ve made French and English copies, and included the black and white templates(if you felt creative and wanted to color them yourselves) or the watercolor recipe! Send us a message if you would like your copy!

Have a great Sunday, and happy baking... oh and about the eggs, we ordered a few hens hoping to remediate to the situation!
